Lanzarote Wine

The denomination of origin of the island of Lanzarote has a unique cultivation system, After removing the lava and exposing the soil, vine-growers face the very flittle rainfall and the strong winds that come to the island.

In Lanzarote they have solved these two strong disadvantages. First, the lack of rain has been done away with by mulching the soil with a layer of 15 to 20 centimeters of volcanic ash that condenses and retains air moisture. The wind is neutralized by digging holes in the shape of funnels, and then planting 2 to 3 strains there.

The strains in the Lanzarote DO do not exceed 400 or 500 per hectare. The varieties cultivated are 90% Malvasia, Listán Blanca, Listán Negra, and Diego, and the rest of the surface is for Muscatel, Burra Blanca, Breval and Pedro Ximenez, and among the red grapes there is Mulata, Black Muscatel and Malvasia Dorada
